"Kebitaraan untuk Kecemerlangan"

On the 30th of March 2017, I attended a talk in Dewan Canselor Tunku Abdul Razak (DECTAR), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The talk was given by Prof Dato' Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali Ahmad, the vice chancellor of University Kebangsaan Malaysia.

The purpose of the talk was to share about the achievements of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia until now with all individuals in UKM. Besides that, the vice chancellor also made a point to all individuals of UKM to work hard and achieve the aims of UKM set in 2017 to make UKM an outstanding university.

I learnt from the talk that even though as an individual, I can make a lot of difference the moment I decide to do my best and bring glory to the name of the university. I learn a lot more about UKM when the vice chancellor explained the global goals for sustainable development of UKM.

Personally, the impact out of this talk was very obvious for me. I was very inspired by the red umbrella metaphor and the opening session which started with the line up of outstanding students that have extraordinary achievements internationally. This made me even more proud of UKM and its student breed.

The vice chancellor gave very inspiring and motivating view that helped me want to further excel as a student. I am glad that I had attended this talk.

Yayasan Patriot Negara Malaysia 2017

Starting on the 24th March 2017 until 26th March 2017,  Burhanuddin Helmi Residential College has organised an event named "Yayasan Patriot Negara Malaysia" held in Dataran Panggung Seni, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The event which lasted 3 days attracted many people to come and have a look.

Around the Dataran Panggung Seni, there were many vendors with their stalls set up, selling various food and drinks to the audiences. As the day was very hot, the audiences could quench their thirst with drinks like mango juice, lemon juice, and so much more.

I went to the event only on the second day. My friend was scheduled to perform on the second day of the event on stage. I was very supportive of him as he has always loved singing and playing the guitar. Seeing him up on the stage made me feel proud that because he does not always get the chance to perform on stage.

The event also invited bands from outside the university to perform and further excite audiences of the event. While the performances were going on, there were chess competitions going on at the side of the Dataran Panggung Seni. It was great to see people indulging in healthy brain games.

Later on, there was a flash mob carried out by the very own students of Burhanuddin Helmi Residential College. They danced to many popular pop songs and hyped up the audiences.

Before the event came to a close for Day 2, there was a prize giving ceremony to acknowledge students who won the chess competition which was held earlier on. I went back around evening. All in all, it was a wonderful event organised by the residential College.

Matcha McFlurry!

One night, my friend and I went out for supper at McDonald's.

We were preparing for our examinations and were so worn out so we decided to have a break. We drove to the nearby McDonald's.

Coincidentally, McDonald's released a new line of product, which is their Matcha McFlurry. As a huge matcha lover, I was delighted to try it out. And I was not disappointed with the Matcha McFlurry.

I will definitely head over to McDonald's again for a second cup!

Study Group!

It is almost the mid-semester breaks, and that could only mean one thing - exams are scheduled up after the holidays. So, my friends and I decided to study and revise together during the night.

We went out to the McDonald's as some of us were hungry and we were studying at the same time. Although some of us are taking different subjects, the ambience of everyone studying together just makes all of us to pay attention and to be focused.

We studied until about half past two in the morning before we left and head back to our residential college. It was a very productive night and I am looking forward to more study nights like this.

A Compulsory Talk by the Faculty of Economic and Management

On the 22nd March 2017, there was a talked organised by my faculty, which is Faculty of Economic and Management (FEP). The talk was held at Dewan Anuwar Mahmud, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). It was not a hassle for us to find the place because FST is located just beside FEP.

The talk was attended by the Vice Deputy of Student Affairs, Academic, Alumni and International (Timbalan Dekan Hal-Ehwal Pelajar, Akademik, Alumni dan Antarabangsa - HEPAAA), Head of Student and Alumni Affairs (Ketua Hal-Ehwal Siswa dan Alumni - HESA), and the Webmaster of the Faculty.

The talk touched on many aspects that could benefit us in our field of study, and I was glad the faculty made it compulsory for students to attend the talk. In accordance to the talk, all classes in FEP ranging from the time of 1.45p.m. to 5.00p.m. was cancelled, while some were postponed.

In conclusion, it was a very good talk and I enjoyed it a lot.

MK1M - Malam Kebudayaan 1 Malaysia 3.0

On the 21st March 2017, Pendeta Zaba Residential College organised a cultural event, Malam Kebudayaan 1 Malaysia 3.0 which took place in Dewan Anuwar Mahmud, Faculty of Science and Technology. The theme of the event was "All For One". The event started at 5.30p.m. with vendors selling food outside the area of the hall.

The event was organised aiming to bond different races together besides serving a purpose to introduce various cultures to different races. Not only that, the event wants to achieve racial integration between the many races that add colors in our country.

The event kicked start with a performance brought together by the three main races in Malaysia, which is Malay, Chinese and Indian. It was very harmonious and pleasing performance to watch. The event was then officiated and starts with speeches from the VIPs.

The event was further continued with a performance by a local artist, Zhu Hao Ren. Zhu Hao Ren is a Malaysia artist who rose to fame through Astro. Since then, he has released numbers or tracks and has been performing for fans on local grounds.

Next on, the highlight of the event was a sketch which tells a story of the family of a Chinese man that does not give blessing to his love with a Malay woman. It was a very heartwarming story to see how all races come together and live in peace.

The event ended with the secretariat, committee members and audiences singing patriotic songs and waving the national flag. It was a wonderful and successful event organised by the Pendeta Zaba Residential College.

McCurry or McDonald?

I go home from National University of Malaysia to Petaling Jaya almost every weekend by public transportation; which is the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT). Every journey back home takes me a little over an hour and I usually spend my time looking out the window and listening to music.

However, during my journey back home yesterday, I met a very special person. He is P. Suppiah, the owner of McCurry. I did not recognise him, nor was I aware of his internationally-famous lawsuit regarding the name of his restaurant.

Mr. Suppiah won his lawsuit against McDonald

Along the train journey, he told me stories of his life, from the lawsuit file to how his daughter became a beauty pageant. It was very enlightening to know how someone so knowledgeable yet so humble manage to become so successful in life yet defying so many odds against himself.

He shared an article written by himself on how to leverage time with money and it was an article full of good information. After about an hour, he got off the train and I continued my journey back home. Never had a journey back home for me was so humbling and that day was a special day for me.

Pesta Ang Pow by Ungku Omar Residential College!

On the 16th of March 2017, I attended an event organised by the Ungku Omar Residential College which is Pesta Ang Pow; a branched out event from the Chinese Community Council (CCC). Every entrance fee was priced at RM6.00. The event was participated by all the Chinese of the residential college and also by several other races.

The event was held in Dewan Anuwar Mahmud, Faculty of Science and Technology from 7:00p.m. to 11:00p.m.. The event was hosted by two informal master of ceremonies from the Keris Mas Residential College. The event started by many generous giveaways of hampers and games to break the ice and to get the audiences hyped up into the mood.

Not only that, there was a lucky draw session when audiences were required to check under their seats for hidden ang pows. Audiences with the ang pows were automatically chosen for the lucky draw. There were five lucky winners and each one of them were given a huge hamper.

The event was further proceeded with performances by local celebrity Anis Aneesa who gave us a lovely surprise by belting out timeless hits in Chinese like the song "The Moon Represents My Heart". It was great to see the audiences sing along with her; her command in Chinese was very good too.

There were many other performances throughout the event like the performances of diabolo, magic show, wushu and 24 drums act. All performances were impressive especially the drums because it was performed by our very own students of National University of Malaysia from Tun Syed Nasir Residential College in Kuala Lumpur.

The event ended a little after 11:00p.m. and it was a well spent time for me. It was great to see many races coming together to celebrate a different culture and to embrace each other harmoniously.
