Under the Chinese Community Council (CCC), an event, which is the 37th Pesta Tanglung Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PTUKM) was held grandly in Dewan Canselor Tunku Abdul Rahman (DECTAR).
The event aims to raise fund and collect contributions for further programs under the society by staging a sketch performance. The performance was starred by our very students of the university and it was very captivating performance even though they are not professional actors.
The theme of the sketch performance was about the coming-of-age ceremony by five teenagers. The idea of the performance was based on rituals held by humans in order to celebrate their growth. According to Chinese ancient rites, it was passed and abide from the Western Zhou Dynasty until the Ming Dynasty.
It was definitely an eye-opening performance for me since I was not exposed to a rich Chinese culture and I learnt a lot through the performance. The ancient rites were intended to prohibit intermarriage with the minors. The Guan ceremony is a high-level and a representative form of the rite, and it had many moral values for its audience.
The event ended before midnight and it was a memorable experience for me - not only did I learn a lot, I get to spend time with a lot of my friends.
